GENERAL SCOPE
316L is an austenitic stainless steel from the 300 series 18/8 family. 316L
is similar in composition and strength to 304L stainless steel with the main
difference being the addition of 2.0% Molybdenum. The addition of Molybdenum
gives the grade improved corrosion resistance.
Normally supplied Solution Annealed/Treated although it can be supplied cold
worked with higher strength properties. The "L" grade has a reduced carbon
level to improve corrosion resistance after welding, and is generally more
commonly available.
