After
two decades Howco Group is still an agile and highly spirited
company whose desire to stretch and improve remains just as
strong as the early days when described as ‘entrepreneurs
with their jackets off’.
From
the outset, the main goal for Howco Group was to develop a strategic
approach that would differentiate the company from
conventionally organised service centres and deliver
significant competitive advantage to its customers through
quality, value and service. In 2001 the acquisition of the Henry Whitham special steels group in Sheffield, one of Europe’s largest processors and distributors of speciality steels and Carbon & Alloy Metals inc of Houston, brought century-old know-how and processing excellence to the group both in the UK and US. This included Rotherham based Millhouses Engineering, which has one of the best-equipped heavy engineering machine shops in Europe. By the end of 2004 these facilities were expanded to form Howco Special Processing and Howco Engineering both of which now operate as independent divisions. Howco Quality Alloys was also launched as an independent division in 2003 to provide dedicated focus on nickel alloy forged products. In August 2003 Howco Metals Inc and Carbon & Alloy Metals Inc were successfully merged to form Howco CA Metals LP operating from Telge Road Houston, Texas. This together with the international positioning of Howco Group plc now enables Howco Group to operate in seven countries with facilities in 14 locations. |
