AISI 8630

LOW ALLOY STEEL

LOW ALLOY 8630: ASTM A29

GENERAL SCOPE

AISI 8360 is a low alloy steel containing nominally 0.3% C, 0.5% Cr, 0.2% Mo and 0.5% Ni. The alloy is widely used in oil patch applications for components such as connectors, hangers and block valves. Hardness levels up to 22 HRC are approved to NACE MR0175.

The hardenability limitations of this grade (depth to which it will harden / obtain the specified mechanical properties after heat treatment) must always be taken into account when designing and selecting equipment. However, with targeted cast analysis and Howco’s heat treatment control, properties of 85 KSI yield strength can be achieved in the post-weld condition as well as the higher strength of 120 KSI yield strength while maintaining good ductility in large section components.
