At Howco, our company’s exceptional leadership originates from the highest level and cascades throughout the organisation. This commitment to excellence extends beyond the walls of our business and into the heart of our local communities. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to have been a part of Houston Reads Day alongside Literacy Now.
Earlier this year, Howco colleagues from our Houston location participated in this fantastic initiative. A number of our team volunteered their time and enthusiasm to read to Pre-K through 3rd-grade students. We believe that this simple act of sharing the magic of stories can have a profound impact on young minds and helps to inspire the next generation of thinkers, creators, and leaders.
The results of Houston Reads Day speak for themselves:
- $2.1 million raised to sustain and grow the Reading Intervention program, ensuring countless students receive the support they need to thrive.
- 175% increase in the number of students served, amplifying the program’s reach and impact.
- Over 1,200 volunteers recruited, demonstrating the incredible dedication of our community to fostering a love of reading in the next generation.
The spirit of Houston Reads Day is exemplified by the diversity of its participants. Past readers include Mayor Turner, Commissioner Garcia, HISD Superintendent House, local authors, television personalities, Houston Texans players and cheerleaders – all united in a common goal: sparking a passion for reading in our city’s youth.
At Howco, we believe strong leadership means inspiring others to make a difference. Participating in Houston Reads Day allowed our team members to put this belief into action, creating positive memories and igniting a love of learning in young children. We’re honoured to have been a part of this impactful initiative and hope to continue our partnership with Literacy Now for years to come.
