Howco is delighted to confirm that it will lend its considerable engineering and manufacturing know-how to support the reigning Formula Student champions for a tenth successive year.
The winning young drivers and engineers, who hail from the University of Glasgow, have
dominated the grassroots motorsport contest for the last couple of seasons.
Howco has worked closely with the students since 2014, helping them to refine their
engineering skills and consistently produce championship-winning cars. The team consists
of around 100 students studying fields as diverse as engineering, physics, computer
science, law, digital media, and business.
Last season, the students designed and built an electric car for the first time. They clinched
the title of Formula Student SIM Racing Series champions at Silverstone in July despite
facing some initial challenges with their new vehicle.
Lucas Blair, who is head of mechanical systems at the University of Glasgow racing team
explains, “The SIM Racing Series consists of online simulated races throughout the year. It
was a great win by the team. Despite the technical challenges of building an electric car for the first time, we still managed to take home three trophies in 2023 and came 3rd in the static events. This really shows our continual pursuit for success despite the car not being where we wanted it to be by last year’s competition.”
The ambitious students will continue their quest for another title this season – and Howco
will be on-hand throughout.
“It’s great to be able to support these young engineers and to be able to assist in turning their ideas and designs into reality,” comments Jim Gribben, Howco Technical Manager.
